The official name ‘Determination of stress-strain characteristics in compression’, is more commonly referred to as ‘foam compression’ testing.

The determination of the ‘stress-strain’, or the compression, is a measure of the material/specimens load bearing properties, measured accordingly to the indentation hardness/characteristics, thickness, shape, size and also density of the specimen.

This test is performed to gauge the load bearing properties and resistance to the compression of materials that are used in applications such as upholstery in seat cushioning, including that of domestic and transportation industries, in mattresses and other soft bedding items, and in the footwear industry also.

In this webinar we will be covering the following topics:

  • What is ‘foam compression testing’?
  • Why is it important to test for ‘foam compression’?
  • Standards and methods
  • An overview of testing, using Titan

Who should attend?

This Fundamentals webinar is perfect for laboratory technicians as well as people working in other areas such as:

  • transportation, domestic & contract furnishings
  • bedding
  • footwear
  • textiles qualifications

Understanding the ‘foam compression’ properties of flexible cellular materials, or foam, is essential to understanding the performance of everyday materials that have a unique place in the textiles market.
